Did you know that February is National Children’s Dental Health Month? The Little Chompers team loves to help kids learn about the importance of keeping their teeth clean and eating a well balanced diet. We feel that the earlier children learn about oral health, the better their habits will be as they get older. Oral health has a direct correlation to overall health, and we want our kids healthy!

The Beginning of Dental Health Month

In the United States, people began to observe dental health in 1941 with a one day event in Cleveland, Ohio and a week long event in Akron, Ohio. The American Dental Association recognized a day for dental health on February 8, 1949. The observance was extended to one month in 1981 and we have continued the month long celebration since then!

The primary goal of this observance is to help make others aware that oral health is important. The secondary goal is to teach both kids and parents how to best take care of their teeth. This includes brushing habits, regularly seeing a dentist, and good eating habits. By participating in National Children’s Dental Health Month, parents, teachers and dental teams can work together to keep children’s smiles healthy.

What is a Pediatric Dentist?

A pediatric dentist is a dentist who has specialized in treating the oral development of children under age 18. A pediatric dentist takes an additional two years of residency for their specialization. Kids and baby teeth are unique to work with, and our team is passionate about our young patients and their oral development. In addition, we have training to work specifically with infants and kids who may have special needs.
