Billing Patient’s Medical Insurance
Key Points:
- We NEVER bill medical insurance -that is the patients responsibility!
- It is our responsibility that a patient is fully aware of the cost of their treatment BEFORE services begin.
- We take payment for services on the same day as treatment.
We do not allow the account balance to wait until patient is reimbursed with medical insurance. - We will provide needed information for patient to file the medical claim: such as date of service, dental codes and terminology, and billed amount.
- As dentists, we are not able to bill medical insurance (we have really tried many times for hours, but they just don’t pay). However, we will give the patient any information we can to help them bill their own medical insurance.
Sample Scripting:
- “I am sorry, our dental software does not allow us to bill medical insurance. We would be happy to provide you with any information you need to bill the medical insurance. In the meantime, we will still need to collect the balance on your treatment plan on the day you come in for service.”
